Irv Warren Golf Course - Waterloo

Irv Warren Golf Course was groomed for both classical skiing and skating today.   The skate deck is in excellent condition.   The classical tracks are good in most places but there are places where the groomer went down to grass.   Overall good conditions considering the 4 to 5" of snow received.  Kudos to Peter of Waterloo Leisure Services for his grooming efforts.

Waterloo / Cedar Falls

 Hi Skiers,

In Cedar Falls/Waterloo we received approximately 3 to 3.5 inches of snow with the Friday night / Saturday storm.   Not enough snow to do grooming but there is enough snow to ski on grassy areas.    I skate skied both Saturday morning and again today on Sunday morning.   My skies would stick slightly on underlying grass occasionally but not too often.

It gets even better if you go out a couple of hours ahead of time and pack down a lane with your snowshoes.

Last weekend?

I groomed both the road and the lake through Pilot Knob State Park tonight for skate skiing. The pack was too hard to set new classic tracks.  Skating should be good through Saturday morning and then we have a long warm spell in the forecast.

Irv Warren Golf Course - Waterloo

Skied Irv Warren this morning.   Both the skating lane and classical tracks were regroomed yesterday (Friday).   Conditions are good for both.   There has been some drifting that has filled in the classic tracks in places but skiers have formed a track through those places.

Pilot Knob State Park

Just outstanding conditions today. Jeff does as good as anybody when it comes to grooming a trail. I can't explain on good the conditions were today and suspect tomorrow morning will still be good until in warms.

For those that have never skied at Pilot Knob State Park, it is as fine a trail has we have in Iowa, in my opinion; rolling, hills, and some flat areas. Also, if  you enjoy wildlife, today I ran across at least a dozen deer, several turkeys, and even spotted a grey colored Owl in the trees. What a great day skiing. Thanks Jeff!

Irv Warren Golf Course Waterloo

Skied Irv Warren this afternoon.   The skate deck was groomed last Friday and with approximately 1 inch of new on top from this weekend it was in excellent condition.   Unfortunately for classic skiers the classic track was mostly non-existent.   There were a few places where the track looked okay.

I have been to South Hills in Waterloo the last couple days. The skate deck is as good as it gets...mother nature has been kind to we skiers this year. I suggest come ski at South Hills as the rolling hills will give you a workout you will reminded of at the end of the day.

Irv Warren Golf Course Waterloo

Irv Warren was groomed for both skating and classical today.   The classical tracks are very good.   The skate desk is good although with edge of groomer lines that are a bit of a challenge.

Irv Warren Golf Course - Waterloo

Irv Warren Golf Course was packed and groomed yesterday (Wednesday).   Very thin deck so no classic tracks set.   I skate skied late today and even though the deck is thin the skiing was excellent.

Pilot Knob lake

We received a couple of inches of snow around Forest city this week.  That allowed for some grooming of our one mile loop on the lake at Pilot Knob state park.  It made for some fun New Year's day skiing. Hoping for more snow and consistently cool temperatures.
