North Iowa Nordic (NIN) out of Mason City, IA has been working with Park Ranger Deb Coates this year and last year to provide skiing on the main roadway (which is closed to vehicles, but not snowmobiles) in the winter months.
This year NIN attempts to groom Pilot Knob on Friday and/or Saturday as time allows. Snow falls also encourage NIN to get over to the Knob for a groom.
New signs have been placed in the roadway to divide the road in to both a ski trail and a snowmobile trail. This has been a process of educating snowmobilers of the shared nature of the trail this year, and we are gaining ground.
If you have skied the Knob and have enjoyed it...THIS IS A GREAT SKI VENUE...spread your thanks to Park Ranger Deb Coates, and send a letter to the editor to the Forest City Summit newspaper.
