Ski stoke (non-Iowa)

Just wanted to post some good-old-fashioned early summer ski stoke. I found a little skiing yesterday and today, May 13 and 14, 2010. Alas, this might be the actual end of the season for me.
The top of Flattop Mountain is up in there somewhere. Yesterday's whitetoom skiing was sublime, as long as you knew where you were. No wind, a couple feet of fresh, about a half inch to an inch per hour falling. Little avi danger.

The skis. Rented. Rosi BC65s at 185cm mounted with Rosi NNN BC autos. The boots were Rosi BC2s. Skis were barely up to the task. Not hardly burly enough to turn hard on. Had to flex the snot out of them. On the other hand, considering how I treated them (like rented skis) and what I asked them to do, they handled well. Similar skis in IC for sale last year were Fischer Silent Spiders (Geoff's) and Alpina Woodys (Fin & Feather). The Woodys are burlier than these, the Spiders almost identical IMHO. I was wishing for my Alpina X-Terrains.

The trails were open for business today if you were the one opening them. Don't you just drool looking at that?

A little point release action today, which had me thinking hard about slope and aspect. No partner, no one else up there today, and my wife would kill me if they had to break out the cadaver dog to get me home.

Anyway, read 'em and weep boys and girls. Here's to a quick summer (sorry biking dudes).
