Lots of inquiries into when snow grooming happens or doesn't.
The initial snow fall needs to be 6 inches, why? 1 - sufficient snow to keep from damaging equipment. 2 - Preventing turf damage, especially if your ski trails are on a golf course. Mess up the grounds and I guarantee they'll never let you groom that golf course again.
After the base is packed, minimal snow falls will prompt grooming. 1-2 inches and the skate lane will be groomed. 2 and more then the classic track will usually be redone. In season grooming is dependent upon base melt off. If the temps stay cold then all is well. Get some warm ups and the classic track will burn through before the skate lane shows melting.
If you head out to ski late and notice the snow is being groomed go home. Freshly groomed snow needs time to set up (freeze). If time isn't allowed for set up the results are usually deep snow scars in the skate lane and gashes in the sides of the classic grooves.
