December 28 - Big Creek Trail conditions are mostly good at the moment. A classic track was set on Sunday and it has held up pretty well with moderately heavy skier traffic. The skating lane is gradually getting more solid. It was groomed Sunday and again yesterday afternoon. Today's skiing conditions should be pretty good for classic and skating.
The trail is 99% snow covered and the packed trail generally has a 2"-4" base. However, be on the watch for occasional thin spots and ski-grabbing shrub nubbins, particularly around sharp corners and the connector spur out to the prairie loop. Also, watch out for a few tractor tire ruts in the middle and right side of the skating track immediately beyond (East) the prairie loop intersection on the north side. I tried to fill them with snow and it helped a little, but be cautious and ski gingerly through this short length of trail (<50').
