Big Creek - Polk City/Ankeny/Des Moines

6:00 PM on 12/28, temps in the upper 20's. Started with a lap plus on the skate lane. Since the guys had touched it up Monday it has started to set up. Still pretty soft in some spots and uneven in others, and none of this is being helped by all the foot traffic, but it is starting to glide better. As Tom pointed out yesterday, watch out for those grassy nubbins poking through that can grab a ski or even a pole and pull you down. This is specially true out on the Prairie Loop.

After switching gear I checked out the classic track and it is still in great shape too. With the warmer temps I added 2 thin layers of V45 Violet Special kick wax to the setup from the day before (Blue Extra V40 on top of Blue V30) and it worked very well. The slight warm up may have actually helped the glide as it was pretty fast over most of the course.

Much thanks to Kevin & Tom for their efforts - get out and enjoy while you can!
