Big Creek - Polk City/Ankeny/Des Moines

Monday after work, 5:30 PM, 19 degrees, no wind and great snow! Me plus 2 other skiers and the deer.

The skate lane looks like it had been re-rolled sometime during the day as there were almost no marks on it. Not sure as to its condition because I was going classic but it looked to be in great shape. The few times I wandered out of the track it seemed much more firm than Sunday.

The classic track was in really great condition. My ski setup was: Kick wax, 2 layers each of Swix Blue V35 and Blue Extra V40. Glide wax, Swix CH7 (all on top of base waxes). This worked very well except in a couple of spots on the trail. For the glide, CH6 probably would have been faster but I didn't have any with me to try. The kick wax really didn't need much improvement but a light coat of Violet Special might have helped those extra slick spots.

It will be interesting to see how it holds up today with the temperature going up 10 to 13 degrees.
