Ames report
Though a few folks have been stride skiing at Carr Woods there really isn't enough snow. However, on the Skunk river adjacent to the trails reasonable skating can be done. From the foot bridge one can skate about 3/4 mile upstream, and about 1/4 mile downstream to the warning sign for the low head dam. I started last weekend and ran up and down this section several laps 2 different days. Wednesday we got about an inch of powder so today a friend and I tried it again. There are some icy areas that aren't too great but overall one can do pretty well and at least get a decent start on the season. Be sure to wear your life jacket just in case.
