Big Creek trail
Saturday, February 14, 2009 – The Big Creek trail received about 3-4" of snow Friday. The trail was roll-packed and leveled Saturday morning. An attempt was made at setting classic skiing tracks, but there wasn't enough snow to make good ones. The packed trail deteriorated quickly after grooming due to melting and skier traffic, and skiing conditions as of 1 p.m. this afternoon were poor. If you come out, bring skis you wouldn't mind getting scratched. Expect to see patches of grass, dirt, pavement, sticks and leaves. The "best" sections are the east part of the disc golf course and the north leg of the prairie loop. I saw a bunch of skiers today and most seemed to be enjoying the spring-like conditions with abundant sunshine and comfortable temperature.
Ashton - Iowa City - 2/14
Ashton has been rolled. Possibly the compacted snow might turn into a base if we get more snow in the coming week. Cross your fingers and check out MNRA in the meantime - Brett
MNRA Trails Packed
MNRA received 3 inches of snow last and was packed early this morning. Most of the trails have a layer of ice underneath the fresh snow. If the temps stay down and we get some more snow, conditions will be great. Enjoy it while we have it!

Big Creek trail 2/3
Tuesday, February 3, 2009 – Current trail conditions are icy due to the weekend thaw and re-freeze. There are a few small bare patches; the worst is on the south connector going out to the Lakeside Loop where melting exposed some of the bike trail pavement. Last night I used the trail tenderizer to scuff up the skating lane with mixed results. The Prairie Edge and Disc Course sections of trail are in slightly better shape than the Lakeside loop. I was not able to do anything with the existing classic tracks. Most of the classic tracks survived the weekend, but they are icy. If you attempt to ski the trail in the coming days, I suggest trying to hit it when the air temperature is in the high 20s to mid 30s to allow the icy trail to soften up a bit. With forecasted highs in the mid 40s, the forecast does not look promising for holding on to the trail base.

GEORGE WYTH - Cedar Falls
FAIR at best. 80% of the skate lane is crusty, with the remainder in good shape. The classic tracks are very icy. The good news is that because the majority of this trail is shaded, the entire base is in great shape. A little new snow or some skillful grooming would do the trick.
MNRA
Groomed this morning to take the ice off the top. Skiing looked good early but this warm-up will not do it any good.
