CEDAR RAPIDS - Squaw Creek

Great skating this morning..........firm and way fast. As the temperatures warmed up it created the problem of warming snow and then colder snow in the shady spots. This led to the effect of right wax.....wrong wax......right wax.......wrong wax. Fast spots interspersed with slow spots, which led to some interesting falls that I'm glad nobody was around to see. By 12:00 it was time to get off the trail as it was starting to sustain damage from the skiing. I'm afraid this trail, and many others, will need some new snow after today.

CENTRAL CITY - Pincicon Ridge

The trail was in great shape for skating at 9:00 in the morning. Some powder had blown in and made the skiing even better. I had a thought as I skied, probably misguided. If the skate lane made a loop in the open area by the trail head, it would create a nice figure 8 when skied with the campground loop. It wouldn't take much extra grooming as half the loop is already there leading down to the campground. This would create a litle extra mileage for skaters who might otherwise get discouraged having to cross the roads. Just a thought, and one way or the other, it's a great trail.

Mines Of Spain

Skied this afternoon on the skate trail. The firm base was holding up pretty good. Some of the hill that had direct sun exposure were getting soft and we had two of three brown spots, which Tom Weitz used a shovel to cover over.

The melting snow was leaving low lying areas moist and suddenly slow, especially if you were just coming down a hill. About six skiers were out when I was there, including Jeff Bradley, who came up from Davenport to get some Birkie training in.

The trail should freeze over tonight and be icy, but you should get an edge while skating, I think. Some grooming would be good on Monday.

Bruce

MNRA

MNRA was tenderized and new tracks cut this morning. Chances are it will be pretty torn up by tonight so I'll try to get to it again in the morning if the temps are low enough.

Big Creek Trail 1/30

It was another beautiful skiing day in Central Iowa. I skied for a little over an hour around dusk after doing some touch-up grooming to the skate track and classic tracks in the Lakeside Loop. The skating lane was smooth, firm and fast, with comfortable temperature and no wind - a guy could get spoiled on these conditions! I will be touching up more of the skating surface and classic tracks as needed tomorrow morning. Hopefully, the trail won't sustain too much damage during tomorrow's warm-up. Hope to see you'all out there.

George Wyth, Waterloo/Cedar Falls

There was an inquiry into conditions at George Wyth - Waterloo/Cedar Falls. I'm sorry to say there hasn't been much input from the area this year. I haven't heard back from the main posters in the area last year, hope they're OK. If anyone can step up and post it would be welcome. Not sure what happened in Dubuque either we were getting info and then it's dropped off. Please help anyone in the areas your fellow skiers want to know what's happening - Brett

MNRA - Iowa City - 1/29 (2:30)

MNRA, 1/29, 2:30PM (25F/-4C) - Skating at Macbride (MNRA) was easy to med/easy today. The snow was fast and firm with a little ice here and there. The speed down to the boathouse was thrilling and climb back out not too bad - Brett

Squaw Creek Park, Marion/Cedar Rapids - 1/28

Conditions: 20 F, light wind, very firm skate lane & track, trail had been re-groomed.
Wow! Double wow!! I thought I was in heaven... The groomer is fixed and the trail crew has produced a winner. Nice wide trail that is in wonderful shape. No need to drive to the U.P. when conditions are so good here. We had a delightful ski--thanks to the Linn Co. Conservation Department.

Lime Creek - Mason City - 1/27

9:00 am - No further grooming will occur at this time due to snowmobile breakdown.

MNRA

I did a quick freshen-up of the skate lanes at MNRA tonight, did not groom the lake loop section (from the sailing club to the Wolf Campsites) and left the classic tracks. Classic tracks are shallow, probably only 1/2-1" deep, I'll try to cut some deeper tracks Saturday Morning.

Ashton - Iowa City - 1/28 - 2PM

Ashton 1/28 (2PM, 20F/-6C), Skating lane was easy to ski, firm, and fast. I think I'll leave it alone for a day and see what develops weather wise. We could really use a good 3-4 inches of new snow - Brett.

Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Ashton - Iowa City - 1/27 - 2pm

Ashton (2pm, 13F/-10C) A firm skate lane made it easy to ski in control. The snow was a touch slow due to the fresh .5 inch of snow. The bike trail skating lane was soft still since I worked it this AM, it might be set up by 4:00PM - Brett.

Ashton - Iowa City - 1/27 - 11AM

Ashton (11AM) The classic trail has been groomed and new tracks were set. Adam from Geoff's was kind enough to follow behind and pack the grooves down a bit. The Ashton classic inside loop, which includes going around the line of trees on the NW end of the course above the bike trail entrance is 3.05K.

The bike trail was also groomed, probably will be soft till this afternoon.

Skate lane looked good from last night's grooming but nothing definitive since I haven't skied it yet, more later - Brett.

Ashton - Iowa City - 1/27

Ashton (10PM) previous evening. Skating lane was groomed with a light tenderizing. Since it skied well yesterday I decided not to dig in with the grooming sled. As a heads up, the Ashton Skating lane is 3K on the dot. The classic loop is 3.05K or approximately 50 meters longer. Give or take a meter or two, I measured both with a Garmin GPS 60csx.

The bike trail and classic lane will be worked this AM - Brett

MNRA

MNRA was groomed and new tracks set tonight. Tracks are shallow due to the hard base but skate lane is still looking marvelous.

Monday, January 26, 2009

Ashton - 1/26 - 12PM

Ashton (12PM, 12F/9C) The skating lane was firm, controlled, and pretty fast.

The new inside classic track had not been skied yet. I hopped on the groove here and there for some double pole and the glide was flowing - Brett.

Ashton - Iowa City - 1/25

Ashton (11:30PM) Skating lane was tenderized and groomed with the end result being unknown until skied today. I'll let you, my fellow skate punks, know.

For the heck of it I went over the classic lane and was able to put down a nice new track on the inside, give it a try and let me know how it skis please. With the TT coming up again I might work the skate lane again tonight, I will work the classic lane for sure Tuesday AM - Brett.

Morgan Creek Park - Cedar Rapids - 1/24

Conditions: Partly sunny, 12 F, very firm base. Light dusting of snow this morning. Fantastic skiing! In my opinion, this was the best day of the season at this trail.
I skated and the glide was great. The track was very firm also. The "enjoyment level" was very this this afternoon!

Squaw Creek Park - Marion/Cedar Rapids - 1/24

Conditions: Clear, sunny, 4 degrees F, snow was firm, trail was wide. Trail had been rolled recently but there were no tracks set. On one section the comb had been used and the corduroy was very good. Skate skiing would have been better than striding--but I brought my classical skis. For some reason a tractor went down part of the trail. (Maybe the groomer got stuck and needed assistance??) The trail needs to be regroomed and a track set.
This is a new groomed trail system in its first year of existence by the Linn County Conservation Department. Trailhead is near the bottom of the sledding hill on the creekside of the road. It has great potential. It is mostly flat or gently rolling as it follows Squaw Creek. It is a great trail for beginners. Scenic views with lots of deer sightings. Also, there is the possibility of very nice classic-only groomed trails in the wooded portions of this large park. Keep your eye on this trail network!

east river valley - carr woods- ames

sunday afternoon both skate and classic were really fine! go enjoy!

Big Creek trail report

Sunday, January 25, 2009 – The Big Creek x-country skiing trail received a surprise 3.5" of beautiful powdery snow this morning. The trail was groomed for classic and skate skiing by noon. Conditions in the afternoon were very good for both skiing techniques. The wind was light or absent, and abundant sunshine made for a great ski day. The trail received fairly heavy use, but at the end of the day classic tracks were still firm and deep in most sections of the trail. The skating track has a layer of soft packed new snow over a very solid base. It should ski very nicely well into next week

CENTRAL CITY - Pincicon Ridge

I left home this morning with the intent of checking out the classic tracks at Pinicon Ridge Park in Central City and then continuing on to Cedar Rapids in the hopes of doing some skating. I never got past Central City. I hoped to find some nicely groomed classical tracks passing through what I knew was a very scenic park. They were there alright, but what I didn't anticipate was a great skate lane running along side them. With a firm base and a half an inch of powder on top, it was the best combination of edge and glide I had seen all winter. For those that are looking to hone their skills on the hills, this trail system has some very nice small rollers. The only drawback being that to complete the entire loop you must cross roads in two or three places. There is a smaller loop however that offers continuous skiing without having to cross any roads. I commend those that maintain this park for the best signage I have seen on any trail system in N.E. Iowa. It never hurts to at least ask the hikers to stay off the ski trails, and it seems to be working on the trails in Central City. This place is a JEWEL. Are you guys hiding anything else over there?

Ski MNRA today - Iowa City 1/25

This dusting of snow should drastically improve classic conditions at MNRA today. I'll be running the groomer over the skate lanes again tonight but the classic tracks will be left unless we get 3 inches of new stuff.

Ashton - Iowa City - 1/25

Ashton's skating lane will be worked tonight to allow sufficient set up (freezing) time prior to any skiing. Not much can be done with the classic lane as the snow/ice is thin. The classic grooves need a fresh 2-3 inches of snow for good grooming and then skiing. As per Paul's previous posting regarding MNRA the dusting should improve the classic grooves at Ashton as well.

DECORAH - VanPeenan Park

The classic tracks here are in good condition. There are some sections that have blown over but for the most part the skiing is very good.

DECORAH - Luther ski trails

Due to the high winds much of these trails have drifted over, both skate and classic. That said, they are skiable and I did enjoying having a place to skate. I just wouldn't recommend them until the time is once again right to groom.

VOLGA LAKE - FAYETTE

Classic tracks here are in excellent condition. If you have never skied here and enjoy good tracks and beautiful scenery, it is worth a try. Most of the trails are for snowmobiles unfortunately, but they groom enough to claim there are ski trails too.

MNRA

I tenderized MacBride as much as possible this morning. The skate lanes look to be in great shape. Thanks to the melting and refreezing it should be pretty bombproof.
Classic tracks were left as-is for the easy loops, they will probably be icy and fast. Had to take out the tracks on the difficult sections or the hills would be dangerous. Unfortunately the hard pack doesn't allow decent new tracks to be laid. I tenderized enough that it should be a good ski anyway.
Good luck and have fun!

Big Creek State Park - 1/23

Friday, January 23, 2009 – Skiing conditions as of 11:00 a.m. were very good for skating and ranging from fair to good for classic. The trail was still 99% covered despite yesterday's thaw. I groomed the skating lane throughout the trail network and skied it this morning. It was smooth, firm and fast, but not icy. I decided not to attempt re-setting the classic tracks because I didn't think it would be successful under the existing conditions and the current tracks seemed reasonably good in most places. The Prairie Edge loop might have the best classic tracks at the moment. Drifting snow was not a factor this morning. Bring protection from the wind and you should have a good time this weekend.

Ski Decorah

Here we are at the top of Mt. Palisades (a.k.a Palisades Park). No the trail doesn't go down this way. I just pulled off to the side of the trail and snapped a photo for you.
Even though it is going to be cold this weekend, the snow should be in good condition. It didn't get warm enough yesterday to make everything crusty. We had fog and hoarfrost yesterday and there are big crystals in the tracks.

Lime Creek - Mason City - 1/23

9:00 am - All trails, including diagonal stride, skating and quarry lake have been groomed. Further grooming will continue as weather conditions allow.

Ashton - Iowa City - 1/23 - 1AM

Ashton's skating lane was groomed last night. I worked the bike trail poorly as the sled was blowing fuses and I wasn't interested in walking 3 miles back to Touch the Earth from IHOP.

Provided the classic grooves are holding up I will leave them alone. I'm counting on input from you, the classic skiers, to keep me informed on this.

The skate lane cleaned up pretty well and should be OK today, no guarantees. Conditions could be really fast and controllable or really fast and icy.

All, please help by advising walkers, hikers, runners, & snowshoers to KEEP OFF THE GROOMED SKI TRAILS! Advise non-skiers to use the bicycle path or foot traffic lane inside the skating lane. It is difficult to groom out trail scars from foot traffic as well as hard on the equipment. Be polite but stern to help preserve ski trails during the season. Brett

Lime Creek - Mason City - 1/22

Just like a metronome, Cerro Gordo County keeps on grooming snow at Lime Creek.

9:00 am - All trails, including diagonal stride, skating and quarry lake have been groomed. Further grooming will continue as weather conditions allow.

Adams Nature Preserve - Sioux City - 1/22

Despite the recent warm temperatures, the trails are in decent shape and were groomed at the beginning of the week. There are a just one or two exposed sections from the Barn to the Lake Loop but the interior sections of the trails all have good coverage. Cody

Lime Creek - Mason City - 1/21

10:00 am - All trails, including diagonal stride, skating and quarry lake have been groomed. Further grooming will continue as weather conditions allow.

Carr Woods aka E river Valley Park - Ames - 1/21

Conditions: Very good.
Skating was fast fast fast! It's amazing to have real snow here. There are a few places on the inside woods trails where deer and wildlife have scattered some, uhm, scat and trail trash but 95% of it is in fine condition. Classic tracks are still looking good, I classic'd back on Jan 18th and liked the tracks then.

Morgan Creek - Cedar Rapids - 1/21

Conditions: Near perfect! Sunny, 26F, no wind. Skate lane solid and track deep & firm. No leaves in track.
Except for the walker's many footprints (in spite of good signage), the trails at Morgan Creek Park were wonderful. Lovely sunset also. Enjoyed skate skiing and double poling in the track. Great workout for an old guy.

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

Big Creek - North of Des Moines - 1/19

Conditions: Really nice - go ski!
Skate, as of Monday, was quite fast but not icy at all. Classic tracks were looking good although I didn't actually use them except for some occasional double-poling.

Carr Woods aka E River Valley Park - Ames 1/20

Conditions: Very good.
Skating was fast fast fast! It's amazing to have real snow here. MNRA

The Macbride trails were groomed for skating and new tracks laid for classic folks tonight. Skate lanes should be super-fast tomorrow. Classic tracks are shallow but should come around with skiers. Skaters, please keep off the first section of the lake loop from the Sailing club to the two-way section. For all MNRA trails, a good rule of thumb is: If you can't skate without ruining the classic groove, you shouldn't be there. Now, have fun.

Lime Creek - Mason City - 1/20

10:00 am - All trails, including diagonal stride, skating and quarry lake have been groomed. Further grooming will continue as weather conditions allow.

Monday, January 19, 2009

Ashton - Iowa City - 1/19 - 2PM

Ashton had 1/2 - 1 inch of fresh snow on the surface. The skating lane had firmed up nicely and was gliding well although it was somewhat cut up. Either I groomed too late or the skaters skied too early, I'm leaning towards the prior. The classic lanes looked to be in good shape.

I've put in some stakes on the tight corners in hopes of keeping the lanes separate, if you knock one down put it back up. Where the snow was thin I set out some tree branches to serve the same purpose please do not move them, thanks and enjoy. Brett

Carr Woods AKA E River Valley Park - Ames 1/17

Really really good, skate or classic. Go enjoy! (Jeri Neal)

Big Creek Trail Report

Sunday, January 18, 2009 – The trail was groomed this morning for classic and skating. Skiing conditions were good throughout the trail network. The mild temperature made for comfortable skiing. Winds were lighter today and the problem of drifing snow did not develop like yesterday. It was great to see many dozens of skiers out this weekend enjoying the trail and socializing. Despite heavy skier use, the trail is solid and should remain in decent shape for the next few days. I will look for an opportunity to groom again sometime around mid-week.

Mines of Spain January 18

What a difference a day makes. The skate lanes firmed up real well and the dusting of wind blown snow with new stuff on top was a drastic improvement over yesterday. With a grooming in the next day or two, there would be ideal conditions.

Wikiup Hill

The skate lane had firmed up and the dusting of new snow helped to provide the glide. The classic tracks were in good shape as well. Thanks to all the groomers who battled some nasty conditions last week so the rest of us could ski this weekend.

Ski Decorah

With cooler temperatures than the rest of the state and new snow that fell lightly all afternoon, Decorah is ready for skiers.
We broke a trail around Silvercrest this afternoon. There is some crusty, drifted stuff on the West-facing slope, but the rest of the course is wonderful. The trail is basically clock-wise, beginning to the left of the clubhouse.
The other trails in Decorah are in very good condition. There was plenty of traffic on them this afternoon.

Squaw Creek - Marion-Cedar Rapids 1/18 9 am

The trail was packed down very good for skate skiing. The part of the trail going through the campground had some drifts covering the trail and small drifts on other parts. Due to the drifting it would be beneficial to groom the trail again.

MNRA

MNRA was groomed and tracked this morning. Skate lanes are soft and some of the tracks weren't the best due to heavy drifting. Allready a near-full lot by the time I left so the classic track should get better and the skate lanes will be chopped up pretty soon. Great day to ski, get out there!

Ashton - Iowa City - 1/18 - 9am

Just finished grooming Ashton. The trails were drifted deep in some areas. The classic trail has been set with two tracks and should firm up quickly. The skating lane is a different story in areas where drifts were deep. In short the skate lane is soft after grooming. If one can wait a couple of hours the trails will firm up nicely. The bike trail is in excellent shape with little if any drifting. Have fun and keep that body heat up. Brett

Wickiup - Cedar Rapids - 1/17

Overcast, strong winds, 27F, dry snow with good glide. The trail was in good to very good condition. Many oak leaves in the track after the wind came up. Skate lane was very good with nice glide.
Had a great turnout for a ski class this afternoon. All the skiers had a good time working on technique and fine tuning their skills. Interest in our sport is growing in this area thanks to the groomed trails.

Saturday, January 17, 2009

Mines of Spain Jan 17

Looks like Wayne and his crew groomed this morning. The classic trails had set pretty well, but the skating was very soft. Some cold would go a long way in helping set up the skate tracks. Also, today a large group turned out for Earl's ski lessons. Lots of smiles as folks shared the trails, some for the first time.

McBride - Iowa City

The skate lane was a little soft although it began to firm up toward the end of the day. The tracks were somewhat shallow but had nice glide. The trail was beginning to drift in spots. All in all.....................anyone that didn't have fun skiing this trail system today should find a new sport.

Ames Carr Woods aka E.River Valley

OMG!
yep, AWESOME skiing out there this morning! full on glorious... (skate & classic)...

MNRA

As of 10:00 this morning all of MNRA was groomed and tracked. Should have good conditions. I'll be out again in the morning to freshen it up again. Have fun.

Ashton - Iowa City - 1/17 - 10:30AM

Ashton 10:30 am was just a touch soft and getting faster as the snow temp came up to how I was waxed for today. Dan Grinsted was flying in the classic lane and said he was having fun. Skaters watch the rising temps and try to stay off the lanes if the temp goes over 31 degrees, look behind you and see if you're cutting deep into the snow.

With this touch of warm up the snow should be fast tomorrow and rocket fast Monday. I'm not sure when I'll groom again, probably Sunday night. In the meantime enjoy the snow - Brett

Ames - Carr Woods - 1/16

Good news! The trails are in great shape (as of 9:30pm Friday night) for a nice weekend of skiing. We fought the cold and blowing snow all week but managed to hold the trails together. The snow was rolled Wednesday morning, Todd groomed Wednesday evening (brr!), and I just got back from setting classic track all over the park.Conditions should be really nice this weekend (I mean it this time!). Enjoy the mild weather and GO SKI!

Have a great weekend, Mike and Todd, Groomers

Raccoon River Park, West Des Moines

I have had a few questions regarding grooming at Raccoon River Park. For those of you who don't know, the Des Moines Cross Country Ski Club (DMXSki) was newly formed this year out of an effort to have groomed trails closer to the city. We have been working diligently the past several months with the City of West Des Moines and other interested parties to make this happen for this season. We sent out a petition on which we receive 250 names of people interested in cross country skiing in Des Moines. After presenting that to the City, they were on board with grooming at Raccoon River Park. They agreed to higher a contract seasonal employee to do the job, take care of trail maintenance, put up signage, and pay for a portion of the equipment. The do not already own a snowmobile and it was not going to be possible to purchase one out of their budget. Therefore, it left us with the responsibility to raise enough funds to cover the cost of the rest of the equipment and a snowmobile. Confident that the funds would be no problem, we moved forward with a campaign. Of the 250 names on the petition, only a couple of them actually took the next step to donate. We met with a few key donors, but they were rightfully unwilling to purchase something that the city should. We attempted a fundraising event, but there were on a small number of attendees.

With all of that being said, we have enough money to purchase the equipment, but have fallen short on the snowmobile. For those of you who have done this in the past, how did you get it done? We may need to close the books on our hopes for this year, but with some funding in the bank and a little more time, we will continue on for next year.

We would like some insight, so please, offer your suggestions.

The City of West Des Moines did clear paths for the potential trails, so if you have some backcountry skis, there is lots of area to go trekking around.

By the way, if you are in the Des Moines area and would like to stay in tune with the club, we have a Google Groups set up that is open for anyone to join. Just go to http://groups.google.com/group/desmoinescrosscountryskiclub

We also have a website under construction and hope to have it live by the first part of February.

Big Creek trail report

Friday, January 16, 2009 – Skiing is looking good for the weekend. An additional 5 or 6 inches of snow fell on the trail Monday and Tuesday. The trail was groomed this afternoon for classic and skate skiing. Classic skiing conditions currently range from fair to good. The classic tracks did not set as deeply as I wanted in certain areas, but the tracks are firm. Glide this weekend should be good with forecasted temperatures rising into the upper 20s. The skate track is currently smooth and firm, probably the best it has been so far this season. A snowmobile and an ATV had been over the trail Thursday night - erased the damage with grooming. Hopefully, this won't become a common event.

Trailside refreshments served from 1-4 p.m. Sunday. Get your skis on and let's go!

DECORAH

Due to the extremely cold temperatures skating was lots of work, but the grooming was well done. The classic tracks were EXCELLENT. Anyone looking to do some classic skiing this weekend should give Decorah strong consideration as their destination.

Ashton - Iowa City - 1/16 - 2PM

Ashton was groomed this AM along with all the bike trail, a classic track was set as well. Please encourage the walk/hike/run/snowshoe-(ers) to use the bike trail.

Same set up as last time, outside lane is classic only and inside lane is skate only. Might be a bit soft in the skate lane today but it should firm up over night and be respectable. Against intuition a little day warm up and an overnight freeze would result in some excellent conditions for skiing, ENJOY - Brett

Pinicon Ridge Park - W of Central City - 1/16

Pinicon Ridge Park (west of Central City): The grooming equipment is currently at Pincion Ridge Park. We are experiencing some equipment issues related to the cold temperatures, but hope to get them resolved and the trail groomed by the end of the day on Friday. The groomed trails are located on the north side of the river. Park near the gate to the campground which is accessed off of Valley Farm Road. This is the first year of grooming at Pinicon Ridge Park, so we would appreciate feedback.

Squaw Creek - Cedar Rapids - 1/16

Squaw Creek Park (southeast of Marion): The trails were groomed on Wednesday and are in good condition with a few spots experiencing some drifting across the groomed trail. This is the first year of grooming at Squaw Creek Park, so we would appreciate feedback.

Morgan Creek - Cedar Rapids - 1/16

Morgan Creek Park (west side of Cedar Rapids): The trails have been groomed and are in good condition for the weekend.

Wickiup - Cedar Rapids - 1/16

Wickiup Hill Outdoor Learning Area (northwest of Cedar Rapids): The trails have been groomed and are in good condition for the weekend. Linn County Conservation is hosting a class for beginner skiers on Saturday at 1:30 PM. The following information was sent out regarding the class. If you know someone who would like to learn to ski, this is a great opportunity.

Seize the Snow: X-Country Ski Lessons on Saturday, January 17, 1:30 p.m. at Wickiup Hill
Due to the wonderful snow conditions at Wickiup Hill Outdoor Learning Center, the Linn County Conservation Department is hosting a cross-country ski clinic. Several accomplished skiers will provide lessons to new and experienced skiers. Bring your own skis. No reservations are necessary. Just come and enjoy the groomed trails. Cost is $2.50 per adult, $1.00 per child or $5.00 per family.

Lime Creek - Mason City - 1/16

10:00 am - All trails, including diagonal stride, skating and quarry lake have been groomed. Further grooming will continue as weather conditions allow.

Ames Carr Woods aka E.River Valley

FINALLY made it out for some late night skiing. in case u are wondering, as I was, is it groomed? Everything is rolled and starting to settle down. Skating will be good, when dare I say this, the snow warms up just a bit. Meanwhile the classic is FUN. Seize the days!!!

Lime Creek - Mason City - 1/15

10:00 am - All trails, including diagonal stride, skating and quarry lake have been groomed. Further grooming will continue as weather conditions allow.

Wickiup - Cedar Rapids - 1/14

6-7" of new, dry snow. Trail still needs grooming from last night's snowfall. It appeared the groomers made one pass with the roller. Skate lane was very soft and needs some TLC from the groomers before it's ready. Attempted to double pole since skating was difficult but cold temps and wrong wax made it a lot of work.
