CENTRAL CITY - Pincicon Ridge
I left home this morning with the intent of checking out the classic tracks at Pinicon Ridge Park in Central City and then continuing on to Cedar Rapids in the hopes of doing some skating. I never got past Central City. I hoped to find some nicely groomed classical tracks passing through what I knew was a very scenic park. They were there alright, but what I didn't anticipate was a great skate lane running along side them. With a firm base and a half an inch of powder on top, it was the best combination of edge and glide I had seen all winter. For those that are looking to hone their skills on the hills, this trail system has some very nice small rollers. The only drawback being that to complete the entire loop you must cross roads in two or three places. There is a smaller loop however that offers continuous skiing without having to cross any roads. I commend those that maintain this park for the best signage I have seen on any trail system in N.E. Iowa. It never hurts to at least ask the hikers to stay off the ski trails, and it seems to be working on the trails in Central City. This place is a JEWEL. Are you guys hiding anything else over there?
