New ski trail listing for Cedar Rapids/Marion area

The word was drifting South out of Cedar Rapids that another trail might be groomed and available to ski in the Linn county area. The word has become reality and Squaw Creek is being groomed. Linn county's web site is under construction right now so I don't have specifics. I've got an idea that it's located off HWY 100 (Marion Bypass) which places the park East CR and Southern Marion. Once more details are available we'll let you know.

More than 8 inches of Snow

Here's what it looks like, as I take up from the rear. We made a trail around Silvercrest Golf Course today. Plenty of powder and not much crust anywhere. We also talked to the Park and Rec Director. They have now packed and tracked all of the Decorah ski trails, including the new Trout Run trail. It will be a pretty flat run. They are packing a wide trail and tracking classic on each side.

I went out on my classic skis Tuesday night. I used my rock skis. There had been several people out before me, but I bet the icy conditions were scaring some people off. It was OK for golf course skiing. No set tracks. Lots of changes in directions by the people before me. The snow depth is pretty good, but it was bottoming out in spots.

Wednesday night, I drove back over to Chestnut and skated on the bunny hills again. It was a good workout. There was plenty of man-made snow, which is slower than sandpaper.

With the warm temperatures this weekend, we will probably lose a lot of our base.

Adams Homestead & Nature Preserve, Sioux City

Adams Homestead & Nature, received approximately 4 inches of snow on Tuesday evening followed by a trace this morning. All of the Lake Loop and part of the River Loop have been groomed but no classic tracks have been set. The conditions are good on approximately 8-10K of our 20K system - Cody McCullough

Additional grooming in Linn County (Cedar Rapids)

Excellent news from Dennis who works for Linn County or the Cedar Rapids area. More trails will be groomed this winter for skiing on the East side of town. The areas are Squaw Creek Park and Pinicon Ridge Park. At this time the details are thin but I'll keep the site up to speed with the goings on.
